Forever in My Heart
At Home Euthanasia & Cremation
Maryann Milford, DVM
Making the decision to have your beloved pet euthanized is likely one of the hardest decisions a pet owner will ever have to make in their lifetime.
I am a strong believer that quality of life over quantity is what our pets deserve.
Making that assessment is often a challenge for pet owners, and myself as well as your regular veterinarian are here to help you with the best timing of that decision. One of my primary goals as a veterinarian is to never see an animal suffer.
We are fortunate in veterinary medicine to have euthanasia as an option to put our terminally ill best friend to rest rather than watch them suffer until their last breath.

I have heard it said thousands of times, “I just wish he/she would pass at home on their own.”
I wish that a peaceful natural death could happen but the reality is that if they pass on their own at home, most of them have endured extensive and unnecessary pain and suffering to the bitter end.
It is always my preference that you see your regular veterinarian for an examination if you have any concerns with your pet’s health. Diagnostic testing may be warranted to help understand why your pet is not well and assess whether any viable treatments are available. The results of those tests will often give owners additional peace of mind that euthanasia is the correct decision. I certainly understand that there are times this path is not necessary to know that it’s time. Please note that I am unable to complete these tests for you at your home.
When you call, you will be talking directly with the veterinarian that will take care of everything for you and your pet – Dr. Maryann Milford.
Please call me if you feel your pet’s final days are nearing. I am happy to help guide you through this as best I can. I have been in your shoes and I know that making the choice of euthanasia for my own pets has been so incredibly difficult. I feel strongly that an experienced veterinarian’s input can help to ease the difficulty of this decision even though it may only be to a very small degree. My goal is to not only help your pet, but to help you feel as comfortable as possible about this very important decision for your beloved pet.
